Functions and Indications
1. Releases the Exterior and Disperses cold:
- Mild effects in dispersing Wind-Cold compared to the other herbs in the same category
- Often added as an auxiliary herb in formulas
- Vomiting due to Cold in the Stomach
- Exterior Wind-Cold with coughing
- Chronic Lung disorders with phlegm
4. Reduces the toxicity of other herbs (e.g. Ban Xia)
5. Adjusts the Nutritive Qi (Ying Qi) and Protective Qi (Wei Qi)
- For Exterior Deficient conditions not resolved after sweating

Precautions
- Contraindicated in Lung-Heat and Stomach-Heat patterns with vomiting
